Waitangi Day 6th February, 2012
'Tis Waitangi Day in Aotearoa/New Zealand, the day we Kiwis commemorate the 1840 signing of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) which allowed the English to colonise this country. I don't think Maori were expecting quite so many colonists to arrive here though. Waitangi Day is good for protest action - I think my favourite Waitangi Day memory was when a protester threw mud at Don Brash, the then leader of the National Party.
